Tuchel Wants Jude Bellingham's Passion Provided The Three Lions' Star Sets Aside His Ego Outside.

One snub proved sufficient. A second one and it might have appeared vindictive from Thomas Tuchel, a coach who is extremely shrewd not to understand that claiming the World Cup trophy is probably going to require contributions by the talented midfielder, even if it is also on the midfielder to adapt to the strategic frameworks and squad hierarchies required with the national team now that he is returned to Tuchel's supportive environment.

The manager seeks his aggressive mentality, his passion, but it is a matter of using it appropriately. Personal talent matters but the squad understand from past setbacks that there is consequences when stardom prevails. Still, a statement has been delivered.

Bellingham had plenty to reflect on after his omission of the recent team selection. He watched the national side secure their spot at the tournament in his absence. He saw the young talent excel as a high-pressing attacking midfielder. He heard the coach discuss valuing the group’s energy and ethics. Inevitably, he has responded in winning fashion, scoring crucial goals for Real Madrid against Barcelona and Juventus. He had to be picked; leaving him out again would have put his tournament chances in serious doubt.

The hope is that the manager will have a midfielder directed towards intimidating opponents rather than his own colleagues. Ultimately, from a tactical perspective, there is little benefit to starting a conflict with one of the best players in the world. The ideal scenario is that Bellingham’s time on the sidelines has made him realize that representing the national team is a valuable, precarious thing. The coach, for his part, can now offer support around the 22-year-old after showing that he is unafraid to drop big names.

“No issue exists with him, there is no problem about his personality,” Tuchel commented. “Bellingham displays the edge. It takes a certain edge to reach the heights that he reached. We all must help him and create an environment which he can channel this edge against rivals and in pursuit of success we are working towards as a team.”

The star dominated the spotlight at the team news conference for the upcoming dead-rubber qualifiers versus one opponent and Albania. Who else? Well, what about another talent? Here is a further gifted playmaker requiring love and guidance. He has not played for the national team since March and has struggled to hit the heights this year but the boss was impressed by the 25-year-old after his display in his club's victory versus Borussia Dortmund recently.

The issue, however, is how to use the multiple playmakers at the team's disposal. Rogers and Eberechi Eze have earned their places and there will be compelling reasons to include another youngster once he is fit after a ongoing injury. Would taking several attacking midfielders to the tournament be an overkill? The previous manager never found the optimal mix at the European Championship. He made concessions by forcing Foden and Bellingham into the starting lineup, restricting the captain's influence in the process.

It is hard to see Tuchel repeating that if it disrupts the attacking balance. There is room for one No 10, with fast wide players on the wings. Clear roles helps. Bellingham is in as a No 10. The new call-up, called up for the first occasion, is a central midfielder and the returning Adam Wharton will compete with Elliot Anderson as a No 6. There will also be no wide role for Foden, who has to be through the middle. The coach prefers him close to the striker. “It is illogical to tell Phil: ‘We want you on the pitch but there’s no space in your preferred role, can you play the left side? Can you play other flank?’” he stated. “Phil is to feature in the No 9-10ish position, through the center. I've long had this vision regarding him for a long time. I think it suits him the most.”

Tuchel conceded there are times when the player has not looked himself in an England shirt. “You feel almost like, ‘Does he like it?’ And someone of his caliber who has this childish joy for the game, then clearly something is not right, be it his role, the environment, it's unclear.

“In my opinion he is also accustomed to playing for Man City in a particular setup, with a defined role. Believe he profits greatly from clarity. Where do you want me to be? In which positions am I to receive the ball? When should I to push the tempo? Where do I have to defend?

Tuchel discussed Bellingham bursting through for tap-ins and the other drilling in goals from 18 yards. He added he has a extended list of many candidates. Several players, Myles Lewis-Skelly, James Trafford and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have been omitted. Nico O’Reilly is recognized for his excellent performances for City at left-back. Intrigue is high.

The omission of the striker means there is no like-for-like alternative for Kane in the selection. Fascinatingly, he suggested using Foden as a false 9 against one opponent or the other. Other options, Marcus Rashford, Bellingham and the winger are other options should he be unavailable. Since the place is booked, this is an opportunity for trying new things.

Meanwhile, it is also a chance to foster the understanding with his teammate going. It's surprising that you have to go back to Bellingham setting up the captain to net in a friendly win against Scotland in over a year ago to discover the one and only time in many appearances for the national team when the duo linked up for a goal. Tuchel will know that the two stars only exchanged the ball once during England’s draws with one opponent and Slovenia at the Euros. The connection is lacking.

“At this point eventually it falls to the responsibility of the players,” Tuchel said. He does not shy away to deliver home truths. There is still a feeling of the player having to prove himself. He may not be assured to start against Serbia and Albania. The manager desires him onside but he will be monitoring him closely. Set aside the ego outside. Doing so could turn a powerful England team into an even better one.
