The Derry Prequel Series Premieres Episode Two Ahead of Schedule on HBO's Digital Service

Excitement is building for the chilling show Welcome to Derry, already earning acclaim and weaving in references from additional King stories. Following the premiere, the broadcaster has revealed that the next chapter will debut sooner than expected, timed perfectly for October 31st.

Early Release Information

Beginning on the last day of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time, the second episode of the Derry prequel will launch on HBO Max, ahead of its traditional TV airing. The remaining installments of the show's first season will be released on the weekend on both HBO and its streaming arm, culminating in the concluding chapter on December 14th.

Show Background

Taking place within the Derry mythology, Welcome to Derry draws from the original story while expanding on the setting realized by director Andy Muschietti in It and It Chapter Two. The first It movie centered on young characters battling terrifying threats, making it appropriate that this show continues that tradition. However, the first installment of the HBO series proves it aimed to increase the tension, providing more frightening moments than the movies and establishing a dark atmosphere for the rest of the season.

Premise and Ideas

Taking place in the 1960s, the series presents a different group of adults and children living in a outwardly charming locale concealing a dark secret. The town operates on a brutal, periodic loop—defined by aggression, prejudice, and paranormal events, as a monstrous presence reappears each 27-year cycle. While the series might sound like it skews too close to the films initially, what sets apart the HBO Max series is its parallel storytelling—told from the perspectives of kids and grown-ups concurrently. Younger characters remain particularly vulnerable to It's terror, but grown-ups don't escape dealing with their own nightmares arising from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and hidden paranormal elements.

Episode 2 airs on the 31st of October at 3 a.m. EST.
