🔗 Share this article Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Leading Derogatory Chants Targeting Coach Wilder The striker has joined Sheffield United only half a year after leading insulting chants aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder. The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year spell at Elland Road concluded amicably in August. One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead abusive songs regarding Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the former England international is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to rescue the team he loves away from the drop zone. Previous Conflict Between Bamford and Wilder The pair had a past before Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League last season and United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs. Making Amends and Moving Forward All appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front and Bamford hoping to revive his playing days. The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day. Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with that. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him giving me a call. “We had 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel too and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Patrick.” Recent Career Challenges The forward featured in 18 appearances for Leeds last season but the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro striker has struggled with injury in recent years.
