Liverpool's Manager Provides No Excuses and Vows to Plot Route Out of Slump

Arne Slot stated he needed to “examine my own performance” after Liverpool suffered a 6th loss in seven English top-flight matches on their own turf against Forest and insisted he would find a solution from the title holders' slump.

Nottingham Forest, in the relegation zone before kick off, delivered the biggest win at Liverpool's stadium in their history as Liverpool fell to an eighth loss in 11 matches in every tournament. The most expensive domestic acquisition, Alexander Isak, was once more anonymous and Liverpool contended the defender's opener should have been disallowed for comparable grounds to the captain's disallowed effort versus City prior to the international break. But Slot conceded the buck rested with him and made no excuses.

“Nobody wants to hear me now speaking about refereeing decisions if you are defeated 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest,” stated the Reds' boss. “I should examine myself initially and my team, but it does show you how a goal can alter the momentum of a match. Before I was just hoping for us to net a strike. Afterwards we barely created anything.

“Naturally there is a way out, particularly with the quality footballers we have. Regardless if you win or lose when you look back you are always considering: ‘Where can we do better, where can we make changes?’ but that is different from doubting your abilities.

“I wish to stress I am responsible for the present losses. You are responsible when you are victorious but also responsible when you are defeated. I can not provide sufficient excuses for us to have the outcomes we have. That is far from acceptable and I am responsible for that.”

Liverpool’s display fell apart as Slot introduced several attacking substitutions when chasing the game. “It was the identical away at Forest last season,” he remarked. “I substituted the French defender out and brought on [Diogo] Jota and he found the net immediately to make it 1-1. At that time it was courageous, now it’s likely stupid.”

The Anfield side previously were defeated in back-to-back at Anfield Premier League fixtures by Forest in the sixties. The last time they lost consecutive league matches by a 3-0 scoreline was in 1965.

The manager said: “It was very bad. Playing at home, losing 3-0 regardless of which team you face is a terrible outcome. Unexpected if you look at the opening 30 minutes of the game. I haven’t seen us creating so many chances in the opening 30 minutes perhaps the entire campaign, and the first time they arrived in our box they found the back of the net.

“It did not happen at City, but in all other fixture we have been the dominant side and were able to generate chances. Recently it is nearly consistently that we miss our opportunities and the ones we concede find the net.”
