Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:

  • Every squad has only eight human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Support

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
